Beltane Blessings

Blessed Beltane everyone! )o( ❤

The Cauldron Born

Beltane-altar-edit

If you’re anything like me it may not seem like 5 minutes since we were celebrating Ostara but alas the Wheel has turned once again and May Day, or Beltane, is upon us. For those who don’t know Beltane is one of the eight Witch’s Sabbats, or days of power, and is the festival which marks the beginning of summer. Traditionally it was the time of year when cattle would be turned out into the fields. Farmers would drive the cattle through bonfires in order to protect the livestock from disease and misfortune. Such a practise seems a little counter productive if you ask me but each to their own! Beltane also marks the joining of the Goddess and God in marriage. It is a time to celebrate all things love, sex and fertility. Beltane is a joyous, celebratory festival when we begin to see the fruits of the seeds…

March Book Reviews

Slightly late posting these as I was away at the end of the month but here it is, my round-up of everything I’ve read in the lovely month of March!

First up,

A Secret History of Witches by Louisa Morgan

Blurb:

“‘It’s true, ma petite. If they know – if they discover what we are – they will try to kill us’

Brittany, 1821. After Grand-mere Ursule gives her life to save her family, their magic seems to die with her. Even so, the Orchieres fight to keep the old ways alive, practising half-remembered spells and arcane rites in hopes of a revival. And when their youngest daughter comes of age, magic flows anew. The lineage continues, though new generations struggle not only to master their power, but also to keep it hidden.

But when World War II looms on the horizon, magic is needed more urgently than ever – not for simple potions or visions, but to change the entire course of history.

A Secret History of Witches is a moving historical saga that traces five generations of fiercely powerful mothers and daughters – witches whose magical inheritance is both a dangerous threat and an extraordinary gift.”

Loved this book! It’s beautifully written and every character through each generation is so well fleshed out that they each felt real to me. The characters are strong, flawed and at times very frustrating but all unique. I found some of the Orchierre women’s stories more gripping than others and have to admit I found the Queen Elizabeth/ War scenario a little bit far fetched but it’s so lushly written that I can forgive it. A heart-breaking and bitter sweet read.

Four stars ****

Ostara Blessings

Happy Spring Equinox! Wishing you all blessing and abundance on this bright Ostara day. Or, Mabon blessings if you’re in the southern hemisphere :).

I’ve been celebrating by doing some serious spring cleaning and spending time outside planting seeds in the garden. We’ve been lucky here in the UK as the weather has been glorious today, perfect for welcoming IMG_20190320_145242_144in the spring and spending time outside.

I’m hoping to spend some time over the next few days meditating on my goals and figuring what my next steps will be to manifest my intentions since I feel like things have been a little manic lately and I haven’t had time to stop and check in with myself.

To help with that, I wrote an incantations to the goddess Ostara to ask for a little guidance and decided to share it here!

Ostara Prayer for Guidance

Maiden Ostara, Goddess of Spring

Growth and new life in your wake you will bring.

The sun reaches out and wakes the earth,

And plants and creatures come to birth.

Colour returns as the flowers bloom,

Life is now growing in the mother’s womb.

Goddess I ask you to guide my hand,

As I plant my seeds upon this land.

What must I reap and what must I sow,

So my intentions and wishes may grow?

Hope you’re all having a wonderful Ostara and blessed be! x

The Energies of March

Good Witches Homestead

March promises to be an eventful month energetically, one that is full of potential if we can successfully ride the waves of change and embrace the new beginnings that it will bring forward.

The new moon on March 6th coincided with a big planetary shift of energy created by Uranus leaving Pisces to take up residence in Taurus, where it will remain for the next seven years. This movement of cosmic energy has probably already taken your focus of attention into a new area of your life, possibly revealing where an overhaul or energetic spring clean is going to be required. Uranus is a powerful planetary force that stimulates freedom, liberation, and enlightenment, so do your best to go with the flow of what it brings into focus for you. Following through with the process of change that it has instigated, will help you awaken latent potential needed for the…
